This Is Where My Journey Became My Purpose.
Every Journey begins with a single step. Mine began with one yoga class and a dream that never stopped whispering to me.
There are countless lessons I’ve learned throughout my yoga journey, but two have shaped not only the way I practice—they’ve truly changed the way I live.
The first is that showing up for yourself isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. For so long, I believed that being busy meant I was being productive. I filled my days by always looking ahead to the next thing, rarely slowing down long enough to ask myself what I needed. Yoga gently changed that. It taught me that taking care of myself isn’t something to feel guilty about—it’s something we all deserve. I’ve learned that when I make time to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with myself, I’m able to show up more fully in every part of my life. Yoga also taught me to look differently at what I choose to give my time and energy to. It reminded me that some of the most meaningful moments aren’t found in a packed schedule or another task checked off a list. They’re found in quiet mornings, genuine conversations, laughter with the people I love, and simply being fully present. Life moves quickly, and it’s easy to believe that everything needs our attention right now. Yoga has reminded me that not everything deserves my energy in the same way. It has taught me to slow down, be intentional with my time, and prioritize the people, moments, and experiences that truly matter. Showing up for myself has allowed me to show up more fully for the life I’m building. The second lesson is realizing that yoga is so much more than the poses. Before beginning my teacher training, I thought yoga was mainly about movement. While movement is a beautiful part of the practice, I discovered that yoga reaches far beyond what happens on the mat. Yoga has taught me patience when life doesn’t go as planned. Presence when my mind wants to race ahead. Gratitude for the little moments that often go unnoticed. Compassion for myself on the days when I’m still learning. And the reminder that growth isn’t something we achieve—it’s something we practice every single day.
To me, yoga isn’t about touching your toes or mastering the most advanced pose. It’s about learning to trust yourself. It’s about finding peace within yourself when life feels uncertain. It’s about choosing kindness over criticism. It’s about creating space for what truly matters. It’s about becoming more connected—to yourself, to the people you love, and to the present moment.
And it’s about remembering that every day is another opportunity to begin again.
“The pose may bring us to the mat, but it’s everything we discover beyond the pose that keeps us coming back.”
Because sometimes the dreams we carry the longest are the ones that arrive at exactly the right time.
And looking back now, I don’t believe I missed my opportunity.
I believe I found it exactly when I was ready to become the person I needed to be.
Hi, I’m Cristina, the heart behind The Nini Flow.
For as long as I can remember, yoga has always felt like home. It was the place I returned to whenever I needed to slow down, reconnect, and simply breathe. Long before I ever became an instructor, I would often say, “One day, I want to become a yoga teacher.” It wasn’t just a passing thought—it was a dream that quietly lived in my heart.
For four years, I was a yoga student before I ever became a yoga teacher. During those years, I found myself saying over and over again, “One day, I want to become a yoga instructor.” Even as life continued to move in different directions, that dream never left me. There were opportunities that came and went, but for one reason or another, they never felt like the right time. Looking back now, I’m grateful they didn’t. Because when I finally took the leap and began my teacher training, it wasn’t just another opportunity—it was exactly the one I needed. It arrived during a season of my life when I was searching for something more. Something that would challenge me, ground me, and remind me of who I was. And somehow, everything aligned in a way I never could have planned.
That experience taught me one of the greatest lessons I’ve ever learned - what is meant for you will find you when you’re truly ready for it.
Completing my 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training wasn’t simply earning a certification. It was stepping into a dream I had carried with me for years and discovering a purpose that had been waiting for me all along.
